Antidetect browser vs VPN and Chrome profiles
An antidetect browser manages separate browser profiles with their own fingerprint settings, cookies and proxies; a VPN changes the network route and exit IP without itself configuring a separate browser fingerprint. Chrome profiles, incognito windows and virtual machines handle other parts of browsing or system separation. Choose based on the data and settings your work needs to keep apart.
WGBrowser manages persistent browser profiles on Windows and Apple silicon Macs. Each profile can have its own fingerprint configuration and proxy, with cloud sync and team permissions for continued work. These capabilities concern web accounts and browser data. They do not turn a profile into a new operating system or a native mobile app.
What does an antidetect browser separate?
A browser profile combines the settings and stored website data you use for an account. In WGBrowser, each profile runs in its own browser process and has a separate data directory. Saved fingerprint settings, cookies and proxy configuration belong to that profile, so you can close it and return to the same managed setup.
This scope matters when you compare tools for multiple accounts. Separate browser data does not separate the business information you enter into a website, the credentials you use or the actions you perform. The antidetect browser introduction explains profile components, and the browser fingerprint guide describes the parameters a site can read.
How does a VPN differ?
A VPN operates on the network connection. When browser traffic uses the VPN, its public exit IP can change. That connection change does not itself replace the browser device template, isolate existing cookies into multiple profiles or change the browser fingerprint parameters websites read. Treat network routing and browser configuration as separate requirements.
For account workflows that need a chosen exit per profile, WGBrowser lets you bind a proxy to each profile and check the exit IP. Supported proxy protocols are HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5. You can set time zone, language and location to follow that exit. The proxy setup guide covers configuring these options; a browser profile still needs its network settings checked.
What do Chrome profiles separate?
Chrome profiles keep browsing data, such as saved sign-ins and bookmarks, separate. They can suit a personal and work browsing split or a task where retaining different sessions is the main requirement. Creating another Chrome profile does not automatically give it a separate device template or configure a different network exit.
WGBrowser adds fingerprint configuration, proxy binding, exit checks and team authorization to the profile workflow. You can organize profiles by platform or store and decide which members need access. Evaluate whether you need those settings together. Having several windows open is only one part of managing accounts; the saved configuration and permissions also matter.
What does an incognito window do?
An incognito window is intended for a temporary browsing session kept apart from your ordinary browsing data. It is useful when you want to view a page outside your regular signed-in session. Opening one does not automatically assign another proxy exit or produce a separately configured device template for a business account.
A persistent WGBrowser profile has a saved name, device configuration and browsing data that you can reopen. You can also choose cloud sync for moving selected data to another computer. When comparing this with temporary browsing, check whether the task requires an account setup you return to repeatedly, including its proxy and fingerprint settings.
How does a virtual machine differ?
A virtual machine runs a separate operating system in which you can install a browser and other desktop software. Its scope includes system configuration and applications beyond web pages. You still need to configure its network and applications; creating a virtual machine alone does not establish that it uses a different public exit IP.
WGBrowser manages browser processes and profile data. Choosing a Windows or Mac fingerprint template adjusts related values websites can read; it does not install that operating system or change your physical computer into another device. Review the fingerprint settings for the available templates. Tasks requiring a separate operating system or native mobile application need a tool that supports that scope.
Cloud sync, window sync and automation
Cloud sync saves and restores selected browser data while the profile itself runs on your computer. In WGBrowser, cookie changes sync during use and selected storage snapshots upload after closing. Before moving to another device, close the profile and wait for synchronization. Check the cloud sync guide for the data you plan to transfer.
Window sync and automation are separate capabilities. The window sync tool mirrors clicks, scrolling, input and tab operations from a main window to selected followers. Automation provides plugins, Local API and MCP for scripted or assistant-driven tasks. Opening multiple profiles does not by itself start either workflow. Check the selected profiles, accounts and proxies before repeating an operation across windows.
Which tool fits your task?
Write down whether the task involves a temporary page visit, several saved web accounts, a desktop application or a mobile app. Then list the requirements: keeping sign-ins, configuring exits, managing fingerprint parameters, switching computers or handing access to another person. This makes the tool scope easier to assess without relying on a product category name.
For recurring web account work, use the browser selection guide to test profile isolation, proxies, recovery and permissions with a small sample. Confirm what a member can see and what another computer restores. Evaluate the actual workflow rather than assuming that a VPN connection, extra window or additional operating system supplies every part of account management.
FAQ
Does a VPN change my browser fingerprint?
A VPN changes how traffic reaches the internet and can change the exit IP websites see. It does not itself configure a new browser device template or separate existing cookies into multiple profiles. In WGBrowser, fingerprint settings and per-profile proxies are managed separately, so inspect both when setting up your account workflow.
Are Chrome profiles the same as antidetect browser profiles?
Chrome profiles separate stored browsing data, including sign-ins and bookmarks. Creating one does not automatically configure a distinct device template or network exit. WGBrowser profiles also manage fingerprint settings, proxy bindings and team access. The relevant choice depends on whether your task needs those settings in addition to separate browsing data.
Can I use incognito instead of an antidetect browser?
Incognito can fit a temporary browsing task where you want a session separate from ordinary browsing data. It does not automatically provide a persistent fingerprint configuration and proxy for each account. For repeated account work, check whether you need saved profile settings, data recovery and access assignments before choosing a tool.
Does an antidetect browser replace a virtual machine?
A virtual machine provides a separate operating system for browsers and other software. WGBrowser manages browser profiles on your existing computer. Its device templates configure browser parameters rather than installing another operating system. Use the scope of the task, including any desktop or mobile application requirements, to decide which type of tool is needed.
Does cloud sync mean the browser runs in the cloud?
No. WGBrowser profiles run on your local computer. Cloud sync saves and restores selected browser data so you can continue on another device. Cookies and storage snapshots have different upload timing. Close the original profile and wait for synchronization before opening it elsewhere, then check the restored website state.
